Betsy Bockting is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther bowling team.

Bockting joined the bowling team this year and was a member of the varsity team throughout the year including Tuesday’s state qualifying meet.

Bockting spoke with The News on Wednesday morning. The questions are in bold with her answers following.

Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? Yes.

Do you remember the first time you went bowling? Probably when I was like, 11 or 12. I think my parents took me bowling. I don’t remember a lot of it, but I always had fun.

Is there a reason you decided to join the high school team? Well, this is my first year on the high school team. My friend was just like, “Hey, you should join the bowling team.” I just kind of did it to have fun with my friends, but it was really fun.

Was there anything that you didn’t expect? Was it more stressful, more competitive? Yeah, it was more competitive than I thought it would be. I never realized that bowling got so competitive.

Do you have plans for after high school? I do. I’m going to SCC for nursing next year, so I’m pretty excited about that.

What was the most fun part of this past season? I think the most fun part was just getting to hang out with my friends. Going to away meets was really fun. Just getting to hang out with people I normally wouldn’t and that ended up being really cool people and ended up being my friends.

Do you remember your highest score ever? I feel like my highest score ever was maybe like a 135, which isn’t that good but it was my first year!

Does it mess with you when one of the opposing players throws a strike right before you go up and all of the sudden their crowd is going crazy? I feel like it does kind of because I feel like there is more pressure put on you. You’re like, “Oh wow. They just did really well.” And then their team is watching you to see what you do.

Yeah, like see if you match them? Right!

Who on the team, including yourself, is the most relaxed and who gets the most pumped up? I would say I’m pretty relaxed but Emily Shumaker is probably the most relaxed. And then Emma Overton, she gets pretty pumped up.

Do you guys have your own ball that you use every game or do you use the balls from the alley? No, I don’t have my own ball. I just use the ones from the alley. I don’t think it makes that much of a difference.

If you could get free tickets to go see any band/singer perform, who would you choose? I’d probably go see Taylor Swift. I love her. She’s great!

What’s your favorite part of the Superbowl; the game, the halftime show or the commercials? The halftime show for sure. I love watching the performances.

Would you rather go a month without TV or a month without the internet? I don’t really watch (TV). Internet you have like, Netflix. I’d go without TV.

We’ve got a couple we ask everyone we give this interview to. You can hang out with one celebrity for a whole day, who do you choose? I’d probably go with Zac Efron. Just because, like, who wouldn’t?

What if you could have one super power for the rest of your life? Probably flying. Being invisible would be cool too but still, flying. If you could fly, you could go anywhere.

Would you fly anywhere exotic? Probably.

All over the world? Yeah!

What does Coach Mears say the most to you in practice? That’s hard, I feel like he says a lot of things. He’s funny, he’s a chill person. He’s always telling me to focus, because I don’t stay focused very often. I’m always having fun and stuff.

You have any pets? I do. I have one cat. I used to have more, but they’re gone now.

Who is your favorite teacher? I’d probably say Mr. Depriest. Mr. and Mrs. Depriest. Both of them are just great people and they’re great teachers.

And we do shout outs now, so do you have any shout outs for anyone who might read this? I’ll just shout out my mom and dad and my grandparents. They’ll read it for sure, so…love them!
