Brody McGhghy is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther football team.

He starts at running back and safety for Mt. Pleasant and is the second string quarterback.

He is also part of the basketball and track and field teams.

McGhghy met with The News on Wednesday after practice. The questions are in bold with his answers following.

Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? No, I didn’t grow up in Mt. Pleasant. I grew up in Keokuk and Arkansas.

Did you go to Keokuk or Ft. Madison? I went to Keokuk and Ft. Madison. I moved here my freshman year. I transferred in November.

Is it any extra fun playing against Keokuk and Ft. Madison? Yeah, just because I have friends there and I get to talk to them a little bit.

How long have you been playing football? I think ever since preschool. I think my dad put me in a flag football league at the Y in Keokuk. Ever since then, I’ve always played.

Have you made plans for after high school? Play college football right now, and then I think that’s it. I’m not for sure what I want to major in yet.

You play at a variety of positions out there, running back, quarterback and defensive back. Do you have one position that you would say is your favorite? Defensive back is definitely my spot. I love playing defense.

Word or phrase that Coach Striegel says the most during practice? “Clear as mud.” He’ll explain something and then say, “Clear as mud?” Coach Striegel says that a lot.

What do you like better, home games or road games? Probably home games just because you’re in your own town and everyone’s fired up.

Do you have any superstitions? Left sock before my right. That’s my major one.

What about any nicknames? I go as “The Bird Man,” ever since I was younger. My sister couldn’t pronounce my name and so instead of saying “Brody” she said “Birdy.” So ever since then, I’ve just been called “The Bird Man” or “Bird.”

Who’s your favorite Bird Man, the NBA player or the rapper? Probably the NBA player. He’s got a lot of tattoos.

He does. You’re the best Bird Man though, of the three. Yes! I am the best Bird Man.

Can you remember the hardest you’ve ever been hit in a football game or practice? I think I was in the fifth-grade. I was playing against another team. I don’t know where they were from, but that was probably the hardest I’ve been hit, ever. I was going after the running back and I laid down on my back and looked up at the sky and I told myself, “I got rocked.” That was one of the few times where I was actually laid out. It was not fun.

Who’s the teammate you don’t want to get hit by? Who lays it on the most? Caleb Potts. He can hit you. I wouldn’t want to get hit by him.

Which of your teammates would make the best coach? Probably Zac Beason, just because he’s our quarterback and he’s the leader.

Which teammate is most likely to fall asleep on the way to a game? Well, whenever I turn around I see Jordan Magnani sleeping, all the time.

Favorite movie or TV show? I love “Step Brothers.” Step Brothers is a very funny movie.

Big Will Farrell fan? I love Will Farrell.

I like “The Other Guys.” The Other Guys is a funny one too.

If you could hang out with a celebrity for an entire day, who do you choose? This is tough, there are a lot of good celebrities out there. Probably Will Farrell, honestly. Will Farrell is the funniest man alive.

What would you guys do? Probably make jokes all day. Probably go get something to eat. He’s awesome, I’d go hang out with him all day.

What if you could pick a superpower to have for the rest of your life? If I had a super power, it would be to fly. That would be awesome. They’d call me “Bird Man” for a reason.

Then you’d be definitively the best Bird Man. Oh yeah! That would be awesome.

Who is your favorite teacher? Mrs. Moore. She was my English teacher sophomore year. She’s awesome.

Any reason? She just made the class fun. I mean, I don’t really like English class and she just made it fun. That’s probably why she is my favorite teacher.

Panther Profile is a series of interviews with Mt. Pleasant athletes currently in season. This season will focus on members of the football, volleyball and cross-country teams.
