Cali Liechty is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Mt. Pleasant girls’ golf team.

Liechty was a member of the state qualifying team last season and girls’ golf and also the Panther state softball team in 2015.

Liechty met with The News on Tuesday after practice. The questions are in bold with her responses following.

Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? Yes, I did.

How long have you been playing golf? Since I was in fourth grade, fifth grade maybe. I did “Young Guns” with Jim Becker. So quite a while.

Do you know what you’re doing after high school? Yeah, I’m going to the University of Iowa and I’m going to go into nursing.

Favorite course that you have played at? Oh, that’s a tough one. Definitely not Muscatine because I didn’t shoot very well, but it’s very pretty. I honestly like the Walton course (in Fairfield). It’s my first time playing there. I don’t like trees and they don’t have trees, they have water. Water doesn’t really bug me. I like easy golf courses.

More intimidating, sand traps or lakes? Lakes. I like sand traps; they don’t bug me.

When you are playing with girls’ from other schools, do you cheer for them to do well or in the back of your mind is it like, “Ah man, I kinda hope they mess up”? I want them to do good, but if our scores are close and I know I can do better, I don’t like want them to do bad but I want to beat them. I want them to play their best game and I want to play my best game.

That makes sense. So you’re not jumping up and down in your head when they mess one up big time. Yeah! Unless it’s for regionals or something, then I’ll be jumping up and down.

Are you more nervous before a pitching outing in softball or a big golf meet? I would definitely say I’m more nervous for golf, because pitching is an easy fix if you mess up a pitch. In golfing, you can get yourself in a really tricky situation and there are so many different scenarios that could just run through your head.

If Coach Booton had a mute button and he could use it whenever he wanted during practice, who would he use it on the most? Keri (Herr).

She’s the most talkative? Well, we’re all pretty talkative. Keri or Chloe (Beavers).

We’re going to play a game, I’ve only played this with one other person. For each of the following questions you answer yourself or your sister/teammate Anni. You ready for this? Yes.

Who is most competitive? Anni.

Who’s the better cook? Me.

Who’s the better driver? And this is like a car, not on the golf course. It’s definitely me.

Most likely to forget to bring something to practice? Me.

You’re the forgetful one? Yeah.

Those were some pretty quick answers. Do you have any nicknames? Not really. I have like a saying I do.

A saying? Yeah. I have a funny voice because I’m obsessed with my dog, and I always go “Here boy!” and it makes my friends crack up because my voice sounds funny…but I don’t have a nickname.

But do they say that to you like sarcastically? Yeah!

Ok, that makes sense. Favorite teammate to sit by on long bus rides? Well I sit in shotgun every time so our coach (is my favorite).

Favorite type of music? Rap and hip hop.

Any specific rappers? I like Nav. You probably don’t know him.

Nope! That’s after my time I guess. Yeah.

Do you have a favorite sports team? (St. Louis) Cardinals.

Eh, I knew you Liechtys liked the Cardinals. Ok, If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? Wow, that’s a tough one. Probably an attractive male or a cool girl. I feel like I would want to spend the day with like Jennifer Lawrence .

Jennifer Lawrence? Yeah! Or Magic Mike. What’s the guy’s name?

Channing Tatum? Yeah, him!

Everyone loves Magic Mike. What would you guys do? I don’t know, probably go to the beach. I like going to the beach….or on their private jet.

Because they’ve got a lot of money. Yeah!

Coming down to the home stretch. Word or phrase that Coach Booton says to you most in practice? “Keep plugging away” during golf meets.

“Keep plugging away?” That means like keep on your grind I guess? Yeah!

You can pick a superpower to have for the rest of your life. What do you choose? I’d want to read people’s minds.

Would you use that a lot? Yeah.

Alright last question, favorite class in school? Spanish.

Who teaches that? Mrs. Beasley. She’s fun.
