Mt. Pleasant News

Clayton Sammons is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Mt. Pleasant bowling team.

He and brother Cameron have been two of the best bowlers in the area since their freshman year and have helped lead the team to the State meet in their first three years.

Sammons met with The News on Tuesday before Mt. Pleasant’s meet against Keokuk. The questions are in bold with his answers following.

Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? Yes, I grew up in Mt. Pleasant.

Do you remember the first time you ever went bowling? No, I do not. It was a long time ago.

Do you remember kind of when you decided you were good at it? Yeah, it was around fourth grade. I came out with my cousin. She bowled.

So it’s like a family affair then, huh? It is.

Now you’re a senior. Do you have any plans for after high school yet? I’m going to college. Indian Hills, SCC, I don’t know yet. There are a few options.

Is there any added pressure this year, being a senior and since you’ve been at State a few times? Yeah. We have a good team. We are working with it, but being our senior year, it’d be pretty cool to go to state. It would be a disappointment if it was the only year we didn’t.

What is the highest score, competition or just for fun, that you have ever bowled? I’ve had two 300s, but they weren’t in meets. Just for fun.

Which school that you guys bowl at has the best bowling alley? Mt. Pleasant.

Do you have any superstitions, or anything you do differently if you mess one up? Not really. I take my time, breathe, think about it. Say you can. Things coach always tells us.

What is the best thing about being a twin? You can mess around with people.

Do you ever do the switch it up thing, lie to people and say you’re Cameron? Yeah, I could be Cameron right now!

You could be, that’s a good point. Alright, how about the worst thing? I don’t know. Double trouble I guess. He gets in trouble, I get in trouble too.

We ask this to everyone…You can hang out with one celebrity for a whole day, who do you pick? Oh…I have no idea. I like music (so) Luke Bryan. Would be pretty good.

What would you guys do? Go bowling. See what his bowling skills are.

Think he’d be any good? I don’t know, he might be!

What if you could have one super power for the rest of your life? Probably run fast. World’s fastest man. That would be pretty cool.

Would you join the track team if you had super speed? Of course.

Are you a morning person or a night person? Night, definitely.

What is your favorite place to eat in Mt. Pleasant? Probably Pizza Hut. Big pizza family.

On a long bus ride to away meets, who is your favorite teammate to sit by? Jake Scheetz. We’ve always been friends. Got him to bowl first year this year, but he’s doing good.

Did you guys have to convince a lot of kids to come out? I know you lost a lot of seniors last year. Yeah, we lost a lot and we convinced quite a few. There are a lot of new players this year.

Now we’re going to play a little game. You or Cameron, who is the better cook? Me.

Who’s the better driver? I’m a better driver. He’s more reckless.

Which one is funnier? Probably him.

Which one has the most style? I don’t know. About the same.

Last question, what is your favorite class in school? Definitely not math. Probably English.

Who teaches your English class? Mrs. Moore. Best teacher.
