Keelyn McNamee is a junior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther girls’ soccer team.

McNamee is a defender for the Panthers and one of four juniors on the team. She is also a member of the Mt. Pleasant softball team.

McNamee met with The News on Wednesday before practice. The questions are in bold with her answers following.

Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? Yes.

How long have you been playing soccer? Actually I had just started soccer my freshman year. I had never played before then.

Really? So what made you want to go out for it? Mary West and I had a deal, because we were like, “Ok, high school is about trying new things.” She had to try softball and I had to try soccer. I stuck with it and she didn’t!

You’re only a junior, but have you made plans for after high school? I know what I’m doing. I want to major in finance and minor in agriculture business, but I don’t know what school I’m going to yet.

What is a word or phrase that Coach Williams says the most during practice to you? He says “’mere.” Like “Hey you! ‘Mere.”

Oh like, “Come here?” Yeah!

What do you like better, home games or road games? Definitely away games.

You’re probably the first person to say that. Why away games? Because I have more time to get focused. On the bus ride, I just sit and listen to music.

Do you have anyone you sit by all the time? No, I just plug in my head phones, sit by myself, all good.

When you’re on the field do you talk much to the opposing teams or stay silent? Definitely depends on the team. A lot of teams I know some girls and if I’m next to them I’ll be like, “Hey what’s up!”

Who on your team is most competitive? Most competitive…definitely Mary.

Do you have any superstitions? Yes, I listen to the same song before every game.

What is it? Pretty Girl Rock (by Keri Hilson).

Do you have any irrational fears? I have a fear of storms, but at the same time I like watching them.

Is it tornados, or lightning? I don’t know. My thing is like, storms cause tornados. Tornados can kill you, and I’m too young to die.

That’s a good philosophy. Did you ever watch “Twister”? Yes! Not a fan.

Would you rather be rich or famous? Rich.

What would you spend all that money on? I’d probably donate some of it. Definitely a big chunk of it to cancer research.

Favorite movie or TV show? “How I Met Your Mother.”

Do you get any special perks being the Sheriff’s daughter? Not really. He kind of just tells me that if I use it to get out of something, that I’ll get in more trouble by him…but everyone tells me, “Oh, you never get pulled over because you’re the Sheriff’s daughter!” Which definitely isn’t true, but I don’t know how I haven’t gotten pulled over yet.

If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? Jennifer Lawrence.

What would you guys do? Probably just eat a bunch of junk food and make a bunch of corny jokes.

What if you could pick a super power to have? To read people’s minds.

Do you have a favorite teacher? Definitely Mr. Maynard. He’s really understanding, and he’s someone I know I can always go and talk to about anything, because he’s younger so he knows what we’re going through.

Do you have any shout outs? My family and my boyfriend Tate and his family.

Panther Profile is a series of interviews with Mt. Pleasant athletes currently in season. This season will focus on members of the golf, track and field, tennis and soccer teams.
