Quin Whaley is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther girls’ tennis team.

Whaley has been a part of the Panther tennis team for all four years of high school, and just this year moved up to the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles.

Whaley met with The News on Wednesday after practice. The questions are in bold with her answers following.

Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? Yes, I did.

How long have you been playing tennis? I’ve been playing tennis for about six years, because I played with my sisters.

Is that what got you into it, a family connection? Yes, I watched them and played with them.

Do you know what you’re doing after high school? No, I’m not sure. I think I’m going to take a gap year and then figure it out.

What do you like better, home meets or away meets? Home meets for sure because you get to practice beforehand so you get an advantage.

Singles or doubles? Singles. I’m way better at singles. I just do better on my own.

Have you ever hit anyone in the crowd, or ran into them? Yes, multiple times…so many times. I always say “sorry” but I feel so bad!

Do you remember the worst time you nailed somebody? I nailed a person in the head one time and she got so mad.

She’s got to know what she’s in for going to a tennis match, shouldn’t she? Yeah, I know!

Was it a Mt. Pleasant fan? No, it was actually the girl I was playing. She wasn’t too happy about it.

Have you ever had an opponent make two or three bad calls in a row and start to think they were cheating you? Yes, multiple times, but I never say anything because sometimes I feel like I’ve done that, but I don’t really know.

When it’s really close do you sometimes give the point to your opponent so it doesn’t look like you’re cheating? I just did that last meet! It happens a lot.

If Coach Scott had a mute button and he could quiet down any of you whenever he wanted, who would he use it on most? Probably Elle (Larson) for sure. She talks a lot…we actually both talk a lot.

When you aren’t at school or practice, what can we find you doing? I go to the gym. I baby sit a lot. I like to cook. That’s pretty much it, I just workout a lot and do homework.

Is your schedule more freeing being homeschooled (duel-enrolled) or is it just as inconvenient when you have long road meets? No, it actually opens my schedule up a lot. It’s really nice actually, I love being duel-enrolled.

Do you have any nicknames? My dad calls me “Red” because I was born with red hair. People think it’s so weird.

If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? Taylor Lautner for sure.

How come? Because he’s so hot. (Laughing)

Are you a big Twilight fan? For sure!

What would you guys do? I don’t know, go out to eat or something.

If you had to take him to a place in Mt. Pleasant, where would you take him? There is no place fancy enough! That’s a hard question. I’ll take him to Pizza Hut or something.

What if you could have a super power for the rest of your life? I’d be invisible. That would be so cool.

Would you mess with people a lot? Yeah, I would do that all the time! If somebody was mean to me, I’d just be invisible and mess with them.

Favorite movie or TV show? The Notebook. It’s like every girl’s favorite movie.

Who’s your favorite teacher? Probably myself (laughing).

So you like just teaching yourself? Yeah, it’s pretty easy.

Last thing, you can shout out anyone in the world. Who do you want to shout out? My dad, because he’s so supportive.

Panther Profile is a series of interviews with Mt. Pleasant athletes currently in season. This season will focus on members of the Panther golf, tennis, track and field and soccer teams.
