MARION — The Mt. Pleasant and Marion softball teams traded punches all night long, but it was Marion who hit last. The Panthers blew an 11-8 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Indians scored four runs including the game-winning score on an error to win the contest 12-11.

The Panthers got things going with a two-run homer by Trinity Krabil in the first inning. Marion, however, put up seven runs in the second inning to grab a five-run lead.

Mt. Pleasant bounced right back in the third, getting their biggest hit of the day from Lyndi Vantiger. Vantiger launched a grand slam in her first game as a Panther, and the Panthers put up five runs in the inning to tie it at 7-7.

Marion scored one run in the fourth inning, but Mt. Pleasant put up two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to take an 11-8 lead. It wouldn’t be enough in the end, however.

Krabill and Vantiger each had four RBIs in the win. Chi Glaha went 4-4 with two doubles, four runs and two stolen bases. Makayla Cam went 2-5 with a double and an RBI.

Savana Walls, an eighth-grader, had a nice game in her first high school action. She went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Anni Liechty was on the mound for all seven innings, and picked up the loss.

The Panthers will have a short turaround before their first home game tonight (Wednesday). That game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
