Panthers down Demons

The Mt. Pleasant JV football team picked up its second consecutive win when it defeated Washington on Monday, 34-25.

The Panthers scored their first touchdown in the road game on a 26-yard pass from Joseph Hess to Ben Canby. Korte Maddy’s PAT attempt was good.

Zoom Gwamna then ran for a 49-yard touchdown and had a six-yard touchdown reception on another pass from Hess, and Maddy’s kick was good for both.

Kolby Raymond got into the end zone for Mt. Pleasant on a 30-yard fumble return, and the Panthers wrapped up the scoring when Hess connected with Canby once more, this time for a 71-yard touchdown. The fianl PAT attempt from Maddy was good.

Gwamna had 103 yards rushing in 13 tries on the night.

Hess was 9-of-16 passing for 224 yards, and Clayle Franklin had a team-high five catches for 115 yards. Canby picked up 97 receiving yards on two catches and Gwamna had two receptions of his own for 12 yards.

Cori Fitten finished with 11 tackles and Maddy had eight. Rob Pohren had seven tackles and Jack Davis had six.

Cale Christner had an interception in the game and Alex Carrasco recovered a fumble for the Panthers.

Next up for Mt. Pleasant is a home game against Keokuk on Monday, starting at 5:30 p.m.
