Panthers take out EBF, Washington

WASHINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant baseball team picked up a couple of wins over the weekend. They scored an exciting 9-8 win against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont in their final home game on Friday night and knocked off Washington 4-1 on Saturday.

The Panthers and Rockets were in a slugfest on Friday night. EBF scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning, but Mt. Pleasant had a three-run third. Both teams added three runs in the fourth inning and it was 6-5 Panthers after four.

EBF came back with two runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Colby Potts helped MP take back the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out, two-RBI triple. Bryce Anderson knocked him in to make it 8-6.

Clayton Lowery came in to pick up the save in the seventh inning. He allowed one unearned run to cross but left two runners in scoring position by getting the game-ending flyout to center field.

Rylan Seberg went 2-4 with two RBIs to lead the team. Colby finished 1-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run. Anderson was 1-3 with an RBI. Cooper Huckabone was 1-2 with an RBI and a run. Caleb Potts went 1-3 with an RBI. Jordan Magnani and Keegan Rich both scored two runs in the win.

Trace White started on the mound, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits over four innings. Jaxon Hoyle got the win with a two-inning shutout performance, giving up just one hit. Lowery gave up two hits and one unearned run in his frame. All three pitchers had one strikeout and no walks.

The Panthers scored the first four runs in the game against Washington, plating one in the first, two in the second and one in the fifth. The Demons’ only score came in the bottom of the fifth.

Colby had another nice day at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Seberg went 1-3 with an RBI, and Chase Lamm was 1-2 with a double and a run scored.

Magnani and Zach Beason were the dominant duo on the mound. Magnani got the win, giving up just one earned run on three hits and three walks, while striking out three batters over five innings of work. Beason closed it out with two shutout innings, striking out two along the way.

Mt. Pleasant will end their regular season at Burlington on Tuesday, July 10. That game will begin at 5 p.m.
