Panthers, Tigers place second at Pen City Relays in Ft. Madison

FT. MADISON — Three Henry County girls’ track and field teams were in Ft. Madison on Thursday night and all three of those teams picked up at least one win.

Mt. Pleasant and New London shined in the team standings. The Panthers placed second in Class “A” with 118.20 points, falling only to Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s 132.20 points. New London was second in Class “B” with 112.50 points, finishing behind Danville’s 146.50 points, and W-MU placed fifth in Class “B” with 71 points.

Abby Ryon was a double winner for Mt. Pleasant. Ryon took the 1500-meter run in 5:16.82 and the 3000-meter run in 10:55.12 to sweep the two long distance events.

Maggie Cristoforo gave the Panthers a win in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the tape in 1:09.77. The shuttle hurdle team of Maddie Williamson, Karsyn Lamm, Kalynn Batey and Serenity Keomanivong took the gold in 1:11.76.

The lone second place finish for Mt. Pleasant went to the 4X800 team of Cristina Carthey, Delaney McDowell, Maggie Jennings and Kendall Dascher. That squad crosesd the line in 10:49.76.

The 4X400 team of Carthey, Jennings, McDowell and Dascher crossed the line in 4:36.48 for third place. The sprint medley team of Dani Broeker, Avery Sutter, Lamm and Cristoforo placed third in 1:58.84.

The distance medley team of Lyndi Vantiger, Sutter, Dascher and Cristoforo took bronze in 4:47.61. Vantiger took third in the long jump with a leap of 14-11, and Grace Bittl was third in the shot put with a 33-00.

New London had four wins on the day, two of which came from Carson McSorley. McSorley took the 400-meter dash in 100.83, and picked up her second win in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.37.

Jenna Hummell took the top spot in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 13.54 seconds. The distance medley team of Hummell, Sophie Lounsbury, Camryn Blint and Savannah Sutherland placed first in 4:53.91.

Hummell took second in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 29.29 seconds. Lexi Brown took second in the 3000-meter run, crossing in 12:10.40. The 4X400 team of Peyton Jackson, Blint, Sutherland and McSorley finished second in 4:24.32.

The Tigers’ sprint medley team of Hummell, Krieger, Sutherland and McSorley placed second in 1:55.80, and Sutherland took silver in the high jump with a leap of 4-10.

New London had three third-place finishes. Lexi Brown placed third in the 1500-meter run, crossing in 5:36.43. The 4X800 team of Krieger, Katherine McAllister, Jackson and Brown placed third in 11:47.91, and Addie Pry was third in the discus in 90-02.

Cecelia Hemsworth was the lone event winner for W-MU. She took the 800-meter run, crossing the tape in 2:40.16.

Kyndal Townsley was third place in the 100-meter hurdles for W-MU, finishing in 18.18 seconds. The shuttle hurdle team of Kayla Edwards, Jami Wlkerson, Ali cockerham and Townsley placed third in 1:18.70.
