A fifth-inning rally lifted the Mt. Pleasant baseball team over Mid-Prairie, 6-2, on Wednesday night at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

Quite a crowd gathered to watch the Panthers’ home opener, and the team did not disappoint, claiming its first win of the season.

Mid-Prairie (0-4) was first on the board with an unearned run in the opening frame, and they would hold on to that lead for next three innings.

They stretched it to a two-run lead in the fifth, but as it turned out, that wasn’t enough.

Mt. Pleasant’s leadoff hitter, Carson Remick, walked to start the bottom of the fifth, and Tony Cristoforo also took a base on balls. Colton Schinstock’s single brought home Remick and put runners at the corners. Jacob Dilks then singled to score Cristoforo.

Tyler Pace hit into a fielder’s choice that forced Schinstock out at third, leaving runners at first and second for Connor Shull. Shull reached on an error, which allowed Beau Parkevich — pinch running for Dilks — to cross the plate.

The Panthers got their final run of the inning when Pace scored on a passed ball.

With a 4-2 lead, the Panthers added a couple insurance runs in the sixth when Remick singled and scored on Justin Dilks’ pinch-hit triple. Justin Dilks then scored on a single by Schinstock, who finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Panthers at the plate.

Alex Moore held off the Hawks in the top of the seventh, striking out three of the four batters he faced. Moore pitched the final two innings of the game for Mt. Pleasant, recording the save. He gave up just one hit and had five strikeouts on the night.

Remick got the win. He pitched two innings and gave up two hits, two walks and one run (unearned). He fanned three, and is now 1-0. The Panthers have a record of 1-2.

Dustin Amos started on the mound for the Panthers, and he tossed the first three innings. He allowed five hits and one run (unearned). He issued one walk and sat down three on strikes.
