Mt. Pleasant held its “Meet the Players” night on Friday. The fall sports teams were announced in front of the Panther faithful and the football teams took on Ottumwa in a preseason scrimmage to get the 2017 season rolling.

The Panther varsity team was playing in their first competitive contest of the season against the Bulldogs, one week ahead of the season opener at Clear-Creek Amana next week.

The two teams played a full game, but had the scoreboard on a running clock with no half time.

Mt. Pleasant’s defense stayed tough all game, holding Ottumwa to just three points. The Bulldogs hit a field goal in the second quarter off a Panther turnover.

The Panther offense showed off its speed and was able to gain yardage in the open field throughout the game. Mt. Pleasant didn’t score, however, until the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Zach Beason slung a long pass to Rylan Seberg from the other side of the 50-yard line. Seberg made a jumping catch and took it down the sideline for a touchdown.

The scrimmage was unscored, but Mt. Pleasant unnoficially scored six points and gave up three.

Mt. Pleasant will be on the road next Friday for their first game, but the Panthers will return home for a showdown with Mediapolis on Friday, Sept. 1.
