PEO Chapter NZ report

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, June 12, 2017, in the home of Sara Titus with Sharon Davis, Judy Kinney and Lea Bradley serving as co-hostesses for the 9:30 a.m. coffee. President Lana Moeller presided at the 10 a.m. business meeting with 34 members present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared the scripture, recording secretary Jan Lange read the minutes from the previous meeting and treasurer Deb Mascarenas gave the monthly treasurer’s report.

“The Sisterhood” membership committee members Betty Lowe, Sharon Davis, Sheila Allender and Kay Denning told about planned activities including, pickle ball at the REC Center at 8 a.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and about three day trips and two crafting workshops. Ways and Means chairman Kathy Schimmelpfenning reported on goods sold and showed items for sale. Memory rooms chairman Elizabeth Garrels shared that the Heritage Tour of Iowa Wesleyan University, the memory rooms and Mt. Pleasant for presidents and organizers from around the U.S.A. and Canada will be July 13. The memory room tours will be in the morning with shopping opportunities after lunch on campus, followed by the tour of Mt. Pleasant. Cleaning for the memory rooms will be Wednesday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m.

Vice President Connie Geiser announced that the next regular meeting will be on Monday, June 26, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the log cabin in Saunders Park. There will be a report of the Iowa State Convention by delegate Lana Moeller. Following the meeting, there will be a friendship salad luncheon with members providing salad ingredients to be mixed at the time of the meal. Co-hostesses for the meeting are Amy Pullis, Madison Pullis, Jennifer Stater, Hannah Stater, Tabbi Schimmelpfennig, Kris Emerson and Jennifer Kohorst.

At the close of the meeting, President Moeller introduced Karen Brimhall, a member of the programming committee. Brimhall then introduced segment #2 of the vignettes being written entitled, “Bringing Our Founders to Life” and narrator, Dillon Payne, a classmate and friend of the seven founders of the P.E.O. sisterhood. Mr. Payne, portrayed by Kadie Dennison, in turn introduced the actresses and shared cameos of the seven ladies. Actresses for the vignette were Deb Mascarenas (Franc Roads), Pat Heusmann (Hattie Briggs), Lea McCormick (Mary Allen), Sara Titus (Alice Bird), Kimn Hassenfritz (Suela Pearson), Bev Alderson (Alice Virginia Coffin) and Patty Madden (Ella Stweart). The four segments or vignettes being written will be presented as a whole at the county wide P.E.O. dinner on Nov. 16, 2017, at Iowa Wesleyan University in the Howe Student Center.
