Quintet ‘Windsync’ performs in Burlington next weekend

Mar 14, 2018

BURLINGTON — WindSync is on a mission to expand and modernize the wind quintet repertoire, and Burlington Civic Music is honored to host these revolutionary musicians. Their performance at Burlington Memorial Auditorium begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23.

The show is sponsored by Two Rivers Financial Group. That afternoon, the quintet also will provide a free performance for area students beginning at 1 p.m. at the auditorium.

In their ninth season, WindSync’s prizewinning combination of flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and French horn builds highly thematic programs that feature landmark quintets, new works by American composers, and premiere arrangements of standard repertoire. Their goal is to increase the accessibility and cultural significance of wind chamber music.

WindSync takes a special interest in bringing music to students. They have been featured in educational concerts presented by the Seattle Symphony, Midland Symphony, and Orli Shaham’s “Baby Got Bach.” Their concerts for young people reach more than 5,000 students a year.

They also have led master classes at New World Symphony, Texas Music Festival and the University of Maryland Renegade Series, and served as ensemble-in-residence for the Chamber Music Festival of Lexington, Grand Teton Music Festival and the Da Camera of Houston Young Artists Program.

Rickets can be bought through Burlington Civic Music by calling 319-752-0336, or at the Port of Burlington Welcome Center every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets also will be available at Memorial Auditorium the night of the show.

If students do not travel to the auditorium with their schools, they must accompany adults to the free afternoon performance.
