Report of Chapter NZ

Jul 31, 2017

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting, Monday, July 23, 2017, in the home of Chris McCormick, for a 9:30 a.m., coffee. Co-hostesses were Kathie McWhirter, Patty Madden, Sally Anderson, Vicky Bergstorm and Elizabeth Graber. President Laura Moeller presided at the 10 a.m. business meeting with 23 members present.

Chaplin Lea McCormick shared the scripture, recording secretary Jan Lauge read the minutes from the previous meeting and treasurer Deb Mascare gave the financial report. Corresponding secretary Jean Thomson read the thank-you note from the 2017 graduating class of Iowa Wesleyan University.

Committee reports were given. Reporting for the Henry County Sesquicentennial committee, Karen Brimhall reminded members that a fundraiser with all four Henry County chapters participating will be held at the Pizza Hut Wing Street in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017. Forms were passed and members were encouraged to dine anytime between the hours of 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., to receive a percentage of the sales and all tips collected. Carryout and delivery orders are included.

Vice President Connie Geiser announced that the next regular meeting will be Monday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m. in the home of Kathy Schimmelpfennig with Jan Rankin, Betty Becker, Ginny Lee and Melissa Peitz serving as co-hostesses. The program will be “Celebrating = Bringing Our Founders to Life!” Vignettes number three and four will be presented by our founders (being portrayed by seven of our members plus a narrator).

At the close of the meeting, Jean Thomson shared a presentation about discoveries made during the research process concerning phrases and words that might have been used in the late 1800s, the time of the founding of P.E.O. Using a collaboration of writing from several members, two factors were used — plausibility and suitability — in determining the script, “Bringing our Founders to Life!”
