Retro RadioThon sets goal to raise $1 million for IW this month

Mar 07, 2018

Iowa Wesleyan University is gearing up for a 40th Anniversary RadioThon in partnership with KILJ for a 40-hour live broadcast event March 23 to 25.

“KILJ is honored to sponsor this event and help promote and support one of Iowa’s best kept secrets,” said Paul Dennison, owner of KILJ Radio.

The Mt. Pleasant Community came together 40 years ago to raise money to build the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. These efforts were spearheaded by Secretary Tom Vilsack in collaboration with KILJ Radio and other community leaders. They successfully raised the funding needed through a community radiothon event.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of this communitywide effort, IW is planning another radiothon, this time in support of the regional, comprehensive university.

“Iowa Wesleyan is our university and it impacts all of Southeast Iowa,” Vilsack said. “We are asking businesses, residents, alumni and donors to join our challenge to ensure the good work and impact of the University continues far into the future. Our $1 million goal is attainable.”

The Retro RadioThon will launch on Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m. with a public launch party and will continue until 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25. Activities, games, and themed events are just some of the fun planned for the occasion.

“We invite your participation and support throughout the event,” said IW President Steve Titus. “As an institution with an annual $55.1 million impact on Southeast Iowa, we understand the significance we have on this region. We are committed to our mission to serve our community in new and robust ways as we provide partnership and opportunities for all learners. Your support is essential to our future growth.”

“The momentum of the University is paramount to our region’s success and I am honored to be back on the board of trustees. Tom and I are delighted to be leading and chairing the new planning commission,” said Christie Vilsack.
