Rev. Dr. Stanley Eugene Jewell

Rev. Dr. Stanley Eugene Jewell, 67, of Westminster, Colo., died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Good Samaritans Hospital, in Lafayette, Colo.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m., at Central Presbyterian Church, 1660 Sherman St., Denver, Co. A reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established by the Denver Presbytery called the: Stan Jewell Presbytery of Zimbabwe Denver Partnership Memorial Fund. Checks can be made out to Denver Presbytery with Stan Jewell PZDP Memorial in the memo line. These can be mailed to Denver Presbytery, 1710 S. Grant St., Denver, CO 80210.

Jewell was born Aug. 23, 1949, in Anthony, Kan. He was the first of six children of James Stanley Jewell and Mary Helen Montague. He and his family moved to Iowa as his father set up a large animal veterinarian clinic. They lived in Lone Tree for two years before moving to Crawfordsville in 1953.

Jewell attended WACO High School and graduated in 1967. He was a member of the Schafner Players, Toby and Susie Show. He earned a B.S. in Telecommunications in 1971 from Iowa State University. In April 24, 1976, he married Martha Weigle.

Jewell enrolled at Dubuque University Seminary and was ordained January 1975. In 1985, he graduated from McCormick Seminary with a doctorate of Ministry. He served God in many capacities.

Until his death, he had served as parish associate at Central Presbyterian Church, in Denver, Colo.

Jewell is survived by his wife, Marty; one daughter, Rebecka (Christopher) Benoit, of Livermore, Calif.; one son, Aaron Jewell, of Cozumel; two grandchildren; his father, Dr. James Jewell, of Washington; and siblings, Terrill (Gary) Willard, of Chillicothe, Mo., David (Lisa) Jewell, of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Lou (Leland) Saforek, of Wayland, James (Pam) Jewell, of San Antonio, Texas, and Randy (Melissa) Jewell, of Henderson, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Helen Jewell.
