Roads Dept. to begin second round of mowing in Henry County

Jul 25, 2018

By Grace King, Mt. Pleasant News

The Roads Department will begin their second round of mowing along gravel roads this week.

The Roads Department have hit every gravel road once and have had two mowers out every day since mid-May, Henry County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss said during the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, July 24. The second round of mowing will begin in Winfield.

The department has one more day of applying Base One to Merrimac Road. The product should be in place today. They will be working the road top over the next two weeks to finish the surface. Last week in addition to applying Base One, the department focused on ditch cleaning along Merrimac Road.

Grout Scouts are continuing work on Franklin Avenue from Trenton north to Highway 78, lining culverts in conjunction with the Road Department’s crew. Flaggers are being used. The work will take an additional two to three weeks to complete.

Additionally, Highway 78 remains closed by the Iowa DOT. Detours are on Oasis Avenue, 170th Street and Racine Avenue.

In other news, supervisors approved a yearlong fuel contract extension with Cobb Oil Company.

They also approved several private permits, work in right of way permits for a landowner in Mount Union who wishes to build a garage and pave a driveway and another landowner wishing to put a water line across the road at 130th Street.
