Robert B. Witte, 83, of West Point, died on Friday, March 17, 2017, at the West Point Care Center.

Friends may call and meet with the family from 10 a.m., until the time of the service on Wednesday at Joy Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Joy Baptist Church, in Ft. Madison, with Rev. Earl Beal officiating. Burial will be in the Claypoole Cemetery, near Wever.

Memorials may be made to the Joy Baptist Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at The Schmitz Funeral Home, in West Point, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Witte was born on May 6, 1933, in Ft. Madison, the son of Louis J. and Ella M. (Smalley) Witte. On Feb. 8, 1953, he married Dolores J. Poland, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Ft. Madison. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

He worked as a carpenter.

He was a member of Joy Baptist Church, in Ft. Madison.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching baseball.

Witte is survived by his wife, Dolores, of West Point; four children, Michael R. Witte, of Ft. Madison, Gregory A. (Nancy) Witte, of Mt. Pleasant, Rebecca M. (Lloyd) Fraise, of West Point, and Diana L. Hawkins, of Hebron, Neb.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one twin sister, Roberta (Bill) Sandbothe, of Ft. Madison; and one brother, Frank Witte, of Aurora, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Harold Witte; and one sister, Marie Ertz.
