Robert "Bob" L. Chandler, 77, of rural Salem died on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sharon Presbyterian Church in rural Houghton with Rev. Dr. Mary Anne Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in his memory.

Bob was born on August 24, 1939, in Davenport, the son of James Lewis and Tessie Ellen VanWinkle Chandler. He joined the United States Air Force on November 21, 1958, and was honorably discharged on June 5, 1962.

Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn Joan Cooper on July 14, 1979, in Moravia, Iowa. He was a farmer, an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting. He played on the Over the Hill Softball Team and coached for his childrens' sports. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bob was a member of the NRA and the Forestry Preserve.

Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn of rural Salem; his children: Tedd (Eve) Chandler of Frederick, Md., Travis (Melanie) Chandler of Salem, Trenton (Monica) Chandler of Madison, Wis., and Tonya (Jason) Smith of Iowa City; five grandchildren: Gabriel, Grace, Jackson, Tessa and Jay; his sister, Vera Blevins of Bettendorf; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Michael Chandler and Ron Chandler.
