Robert E. (Bobby) Conn, 85, of Billings, Mont., died on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the Riverstone Hospice Home.

 

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with full military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

He was born on August 11, 1931 to Orval B. and Cora Ester McNamee Conn in Mt. Pleasant. After the death of his parents, he went to live with his sister Marjorie and brother-in-law Clyde Loyd. He attended Winfield and Mt. Pleasant Schools. Following high school, he entered the United States Army on April 20, 1949, before his 18th birthday. Bobby served for 13 months in Korea, and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1952. He was proud of his service to his country.

He also was with the American Legion for 30 years with the Honor Guard in Galesburg, Ill.

 

He was united in marriage to Norma Oddetta Windle on February 14, 1954 in Middletown, Iowa and to this union three daughters were born, Clarissa, Melissa and Teresa. He started working for the CB&Q Railroad as a Laborer at the West Burlington Shop. Later he moved to Galesburg, Ill. and updated his status to a Fireman and Locomotive Engineer and continued his service with Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Clarissa K. Conn of Marina, Calif., Melissa R. (Bob) Adams, of Laurel, Mont., Teresa R. Aman, of Dickinson, N.D.; four grandchildren; two step-children, Stacey Adams, and Joshua (Lisa) Adams both of Livingston, Mont.; and three step-great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Marjorie Loyd of Columbus Junction, JoAnn (Scott) Williams, of Burlington, and Jack Conn of Mt. Pleasant.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son; two brothers, Orval B. Conn Jr, and Melbourne Conn; three sisters, Shirley Ann Conn, Lucian Conn, and Verna Lou Kester Stout.
