Rockets no match for MP JV, freshman girls

The Mt. Pleasant varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by a score of 53-50 on Tuesday night in Mt. Pleasant, completing a sweep of the Rockets that was started by the freshmen and continued by the JV team.

The JV team won its game against the Rockets by a score of 48-32.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Jena Stukerjurgen, Sarah Moffett and Carolyn Lutovsky with eight points apiece.

Shelby Allender added six points and Delayna Cotton scored five.

Earlier in the night, the freshman team claimed a 56-20 win over the Rockets.

The Panthers hit their 3-pointers early to run to a 34-14 lead by halftime and limited Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont to just six points in the second half.

Rylee Amos and Bailey Johnson each scored 14 points for Mt. Pleasant in the win.

Ashley Schinstock added seven points; Brianna Shelman and Moffett chipped in six points each.

Kirsten Fry had three rebounds and Schinstock had five steals.

Next up for the Panthers is a freshman/JV/varsity tripleheader at Ft. Madison on Friday.

Tipoff for the freshman game is scheduled for 4:45 p.m., followed by JV and varsity.
