Members of the Swedesburg Evangelical Church Luther League traveled to Nevada and Arizona on a mission trip called Rooted. The youths joined 250 other individuals from southeast Iowa and the Grand Canyon area to learn more and help others in need. The trip included three nights in Nevada where they spent time at the U.S. Vets Center, which helps homeless veterans get back on their feet. The next four nights were in Phoenix with outings to The Grand Canyon, the U.S./Mexico border in Nogales and Streetlight, a shelter for teen girls coming out of the sex trafficking industry. Each mission immersion included speakers on each topic and some hands-on work which was found to be rewarding. The teens plan to use the experience they gained by helping to serve those locally who have been effected by homelessness, human trafficking and immigration issues.
