S. Jefferson St. re-opened Monday, construction continues on rest of the square

Photo by: Gretchen Teske Jefferson St. is now open for both cars and pedestrians. The construction began earlier this month. Steel bars and the mainline for the rest of the street were poured yesterday with the Monroe St. intersection set to open today.

Construction on S. Jefferson St. wrapped up Monday and the road is now open to cars and pedestrians alike.

Beginning next week, Jones Contracting will be working on paving parking areas as well as finishing sidewall approaches, red slopesand paving back the Madison St. Intersection. Weather permitting, they plan to complete construction on N. Jefferson St. by June 1.

Kinney & Sons are working on S. Main St. and placed engineering fabric and granular subbase from South St. to Langdon St. yesterday, while Drish Construction finished the sanitary manhole and sewer replacement in the Langdon St. and South Main St. intersection.

On Monday, May 21, the South St. and South Main St. intersection will be closed. Kinney & Sons will be replacing the sanitary manhole, laying new storm sewer pipe and installing new storm sewer intakes.

Mt. Pleasant Utilities will relocate the hydrant at the NE corner of South St. and South Main St. later that week.

Paving the South St. Intersection is set to begin by June 4, weather permitting. If this continues, the South St. and S. Main St. intersection will be closed to traffic for three weeks.

Mt. Pleasant Utilities began abandoning water mains in the S. Locust St. and Green St. intersection yesterday and will continue to do so through May 22.

Another manhole and sewer replacement North of Langdon St. on S. Main St. is scheduled to be completed by May 22, weather permitting.

During this time, Kinney & Sons will complete placing the engineering fabric and granular subbase to the North apartment North of Langdon on the West side of South Main St.

On Wednesday, May 23, South Main St. from the North Side of Webster St. to the South side of Clay St. will be closed.

All cross streets also will be closed at South Main St. Kinney & Sons will be starting pavement removal and sanitary and storm sewer work.

Jones Contracting will begin paving on S. Main St. after Memorial Weekend. They will be paving from the North side of South St. North to the center of the driveway, to the North Apartment North of Langdon. Homeowners will be able to access their driveways until crews start setting string lines to pave.

On May 23, Drish Construction will be begin sanitary sewer construction, weather permitting.

Earlier this week, Fye Excavating began excavating for the new paving of the Maple leaf parking lot.

The school and Fye Excavating have been working together to install a fenced walkway at the East and West ends of the parking lot for access to the athletic complex.

Mt. Pleasant Utilities will be connecting a new water line to the athletic complex from Mapleleaf Dr. from May 23-25. Weather permitting, Jones Contracting plans to start paving on the parking lot the first week of June.
