Salem Veterans Memorial dedication

The dedication for the newly completed Salem Veterans Memorial has been scheduled.

The memorial dedication has been set for Saturday, July 22, at 1 p.m. The dedication is expected to last approximately one hour and will be held at the Memorial at the corner of Oak and Main Streets in Salem (directly across from the Community Center). In the event of inclement weather, the dedication will be held in the Salem Community Center.

The keynote speaker will be Pat Coen, superintendent of Burlington Community Schools, retired Colonel, National Guard Combat Engineers. Army Commendation Medals, two awards, Multiple Combat Action Badges, Bronze Star and Afghanistan Campaign Medal and was the commander of the 224 Engineer Battalion of Mt Pleasant. The invocation will be provided by Chaplain, Mark Hall, a 20 year retired Army Chaplin who still works as the Iowa City VA Medical Hospital Chief of Chaplains. Refreshments will be provided at the Salem Community Center immediately after the dedication.

Join the Salem Veterans Committee in honoring veterans from our community that fought in the Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, the War of 1812, Civil War, WWI, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam War, Panama, Gulf War, Blackhawk War, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and peacetime. These veterans laid their lives on the line to keep this nation free.

The committee is sponsored by the American Legion Post 94 and the American Legion Auxiliary of Salem, and is a nonprofit 501 (c) (19) entity.
