Jul 31, 2017

City councils from seven Henry County municipalities have passed resolutions of support for the proposed Henry County Law Center, according to the Citizens Organized for Public Safety (COPS).

A bond referendum election on the $9.1M new law center/jail will be tomorrow, Aug. 1

Mike Hampton and Kay Denning, COPs’ co-chairs, announced that Mt. Pleasant, New London, Winfield, Olds, Wayland, Westwood and Salem city councils have passed resolutions of support for the project.

“We appreciate Henry County Sheriff Rich McNamee appearing before all the city councils in Henry County. He gave a formal presentation to each council and answered all questions posed by the city council members,” Hampton reported.

Denning said that as of Thursday afternoon, 930 absentee ballots had been cast at the county auditor’s office (1,086 votes had been cast as of the end of the business day on Friday, according to County Auditor Shelly Barber). “We appreciate the citizens of Henry County who have voted early. We encourage residents who haven’t already voted to vote on Tuesday, Aug. 1.”

Polling sites will be open tomorrow (Tues.) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mt. Pleasant Wards I-IV and Center Township vote at Cottrell Gymnasium. The northwest precinct will vote at the Wayland Community Building, Northeast precinct votes at Winfield City Hall, Southeast precinct at New London Community Center and Southwest precinct at Salem Community Center.
