Sheriff’s Department makes burglary arrest

Apr 15, 2013

An alleged break-in resulted in an arrest of an intoxicated Wayland man on Saturday.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a call that an intoxicated subject, alleged to be Richard Mattix, was attempting to get in to the caller’s residence at 1100 block of Dakota Avenue, Wayland.

Upon a Henry County Deputy Sheriff’s arrival, Mattix allegedly ran from the area. After a foot chase ensued, the male subject barricaded himself underneath a trailer. The subject allegedly resisted arrest and attempted an altercation with the deputy.

As a result, the suspect was subdued with a taser and arrested, according to a law enforcement report.

Upon further investigation, Mattix was charged with second degree attempted burglary, interference with official acts and public intoxication.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.

Further charges are pending at this time, according to a news release.
