Six graduate from MP’s home school program

Six students recently received their completion certificates for Mt. Pleasant’s home school program.

The certificates were awarded during an end of the year picnic and senior recognition on May 16. According to the Home School Assistance Program (HSAP) teacher/coordinator, there were 84 students and 45 families in the Mt. Pleasant HSAP during the 2017-18 school year.

Below is a brief biography on each of the six graduates.

 

Ben Bacher

I am Ben Bacher, the son of Brian and Melissa Bacher. I have two sisters and a brother. I have been homeschooled since kindergarten. I volunteer at Midwest Central Railroad as a conductor and at the Log Village as a blacksmith. I enjoy reading and drawing.

 

Amos Graber

My name is Amos Graber. I have been homeschooled since kindergarten. I am the son of David and Marian Graber, I have one brother and two sisters. We live on a grain and livestock farm near Lockridge. After completion of high school, I plan on working on our family farm as a fourth generation farmer. I enjoy hunting, new technology and guns.

 

Timothy Miller

My name is Timothy Miller, the son of Paul and Dorene Miller. I have three siblings - Duane, Brittney and Benjamin. I plan to attend Bible Missionary Institute this fall. I am currently taking private pilot lessons through the Mt. Pleasant Municipal airport.

 

Keegan Rich

My name is Keegan Rich and I am the son of Kean and Barb Rich. I have two older sisters, Kelsey Norton and Kyla Rich. I am a member of Calvary Baptist Church where I am active in youth TEAM and help in the sound booth on Sunday mornings.

I have been on four service outreach trips with Eight Days of Hope, an organization that helps restore hope to people who have been affected by natural disasters.

I have been very sports oriented my entire life. I enjoy playing sports as well as studying the game of baseball and other sports. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to play sports in the middle school and high school through MPCSD.

I am currently finishing up my senior year of track and field and beginning my last year of high school baseball. In my spare time I enjoy snow skiing, golfing, lifting weights, and spending time with my family.

My future plans include attending Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn. I plan on majoring in business. I will also be playing baseball and participating in indoor track and field.

 

Sophia Situmeang

Sophia Situmeang is excited to be completing her high school education from the HSAP, Mt. Pleasant Community High School, and SCC.

Her extracurricular activities have included volleyball with the Mt. Pleasant Panthers, youth worship band at Harmony Bible Church, piano for about seven years, and missions trips to Knoxville, Tenn., Honduras, Guatemala, and (soon) Tijuana.

Through all of these she has come to appreciate the area of English, specifically writing. She hopes to use her writing someday in missions. Sophia has been accepted to the University of Iowa where she plans to begin a double major in Communications and Business.

 

Quinn Whaley

My name is Quin Whaley, the youngest daughter of Lynn and Lori Whaley. I was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant along with my other siblings. I was homeschooled from grades K-8th. My freshman through senior years I attended Mt. Pleasant High School while being dual enrolled in the HSAP. I’ve played on the MP tennis team for four years and am currently playing their #1 position. I enjoy shopping, movies, the gym and hanging out with family and friends. I plan to take a gap year after graduation and attend Capri College of Cosmetology in my future. I hope to live and work in the Iowa City area.
