Sixth-inning rally lifts Tigers

Jul 07, 2014

NEW LONDON — A last-ditch effort turned frowns to smiles Thursday night in New London.

Trailing Harmony, 11-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Tigers regrouped and put five runs in the book to take a 12-11 Southeast Iowa Superconference triumph over the visitors.

Mitch Boles was the recipient of the rally, gaining the victory in relief of Jayden Flowers. Boles threw 3.3 innings of two-hit ball, striking out three and walking the same number. Meanwhile, Flowers fanned seven and walked five in 3.6 innings of work.

Hunter Moeller had the big stick, going 4-5 (all singles) with an RBI. Devon Smith doubled and singled while Flowers and Justin Henecke each had two singles.

Others chipping in with a single apiece were Quincy Porter, Reno Chiri and Tyler Stevenson.

The victory left the winners at 9-12 heading into the final week of the campaign.
