Oct 05, 2017

WASHINGTON — The Southeast Iowa Small Farms and Acreage Conference will be at the Washington County Extension office on Nov. 4.

The event is hosted by the Washington County Extension and Outreach along with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The conference is geared toward people who want to learn more about opportunities with their small farms or acreages, or for those who are considering country living.

General session topics include managing your property for wildlife, managing wells and septic systems and local foods and marketing. Breakout session topics include pond management, managing emerald ash borer, windbreaks, beekeeping, organic vs. natural commodity production and livestock production on an acreage.

“We are excited to be able to offer this type of conference in southeast Iowa,” said Tom Miller, project planning specialist/ag for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. “It should be a great day filled with lots of information relevant to those living or considering living on an acreage or small farm.”

The Small Farms and Acreage Conference will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds located at 611 Highway 1 South, Washington. There is a registration fee. You can register by calling the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811 by Oct. 27.
