It’s a big day for Henry County sports as the spring sports postseason continues around the state.

The big story, of course, is the state track and field meet in Des Moines, but there are plenty of other postseason events going on this weekend.

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ tennis team is also in action, competing at the regional tournament in Fairfield. Individuals and doubles teams are looking to keep their state dreams alive.

The Winfield-Mt. Union and New London boys’ golf teams are competing today in their state-qualifying meet at East Buchanan, which started this morning. By the day’s end, Henry County may have its first state qualifying team of the golf season.

The Panther boys’ golf team is one day away from their district final in Oskaloosa. Mt. Pleasant will aim for state on Friday, May 19, at 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, the three Henry County girls’ golf teams prepare for their chance at the state meet.

All three teams will be in qualifying action on the morning of Monday, May 22. Mt. Pleasant will be in Cedar Rapids and New London and W-MU will both compete in Keota.

Although the spring sports scene will die down a little after this weekend, the area’s high school baseball and softball teams will give Henry County plenty to watch for.

The summer sports season will officially begin next week with all area teams in action.
