State XC meet one day away

FT. DODGE — It’s that time of year again as the best distance runners around Iowa will meet up at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Ft. Dodge for the state cross-country meet.

The meet will begin tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m., with the final awards beginning at approximately 3 p.m. The state meet is free but paid-parking will be available closer to the course, weather permitting.

The meet will begin with the 4A girls, who will kick things off at 11 a.m., with races taking place every half hour.

The first Henry County athlete taking the course will be Mt. Pleasant’s Abby Ryon. Ryon, the 23rd-ranked runner in Class 3A, will be running at approximately noon in the third race of the day.

Sixth-ranked Cody Mertens and the Class 3A boys will be next, at 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremonies for Class 3A are scheduled for 1:20 p.m.

The Danville-New London girls are scheduled to run at 1 p.m., when the 2A girls take the course. Danville-New London is led by 17th-ranked Lexi Brown and 22nd-ranked Addy Parrott. The Class 2A awards ceremonies will start around 2:20 p.m.

The final Henry County athlete to run will be Pearl Krieger-Coble, who will compete with the rest of the Class 1A girls at 2 p.m. The Class 1A awards ceremonies will be the final event of the day and are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
