Three charged following mishap

Sep 28, 2017

Three Mt. Pleasant residents received citations following a two-vehicle accident on Monday, Sept. 25, at the intersection of East Monroe and South Cherry streets in Mt. Pleasant.

According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, it all began with several juveniles throwing wet toilet paper at vehicles in the McDonalds’ parking lot. A short time later, local police were dispatched to the accident scene.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Grant Goody, of Mt. Pleasant, an occupant in a blue pickup truck, had thrown wet toilet paper, striking a 2006 Pontiac, operated by Darrel Wiggins of Mt. Pleasant. The two vehicles proceeded south on Cherry Street, approaching the intersection with Monroe Street.

At the intersection, the Wiggins’ vehicle struck a 2009 GMC, operated by Libby Ensminger, of Mt. Pleasant.

The Wiggins’ vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damages while the Ensminger vehicle damage was listed at $5,500.

Wiggins was transported from the scene by Henry County Ambulance. A passenger in the Ensminger vehicle was also transported to the Henry County Health Center by private vehicle.

Police charged Ensminger with failure to obey a stop sign. Wiggins was charged with driving under suspension, and Goody with littering, resulting from him throwing the toilet paper at the Wiggins’ vehicle.

Mt. Pleasant Police remind the public that it is a violation of the Iowa Restraint Law to ride or transport riders in the bed of a pickup truck.
