ELDON — The New London baseball team was out for vengeance on Tuesday night in Eldon. The Tigers took down Cardinal 5-3 in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup, paying the Comets back for an 8-0 beating in the season opener.

New London had to scrap for their win. The Tigers and Comets traded runs throughout the night, but it was New London that laughed last.

The Tigers took the lead with one run in the top of the first inning. Cardinal tied the game in the second and took a 2-1 lead in the third, but the Tigers tied it back up in the fourth at 2-2.

New London scored one in the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage. Cardinal tied the game up at 3-3 with one of their own in the bottom of the fifth, but the Tigers scored one in the sixth and one in the fifth to walk out with a two-run victory.

Sam Loyd went 1-2 with two RBIs in the win. Mason Porter was 2-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Isaac McSorley went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Cooper Schulte finished 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Keontae Luckett went 1-3 with a run scored and Shae Summerfield was 1-3 with an RBI.

McSorley started on the mound for New London, throwing four and one-third innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks. Britt Noel went two and two-thirds shutout innings in relief to get the win. Noel walked one batter and struck out two.
