Tigers defeated by Red Devils

Oct 17, 2013

The Iowa Wesleyan College soccer teams remain winless in conference play after both the Tigers men's and women's soccer teams fell on the road to Eureka College on Wednesday. The IWC men fell 3-1 to the Red Devils, while the IWC women fell 10-1.

In the men's game, the Tigers put on a strong attack, outshooting the Red Devils 24-10. The purple and white put eight of those on goal, but the Red Devils' goalkeeper was up for the challenge, making seven saves to hand the Tigers the loss.

Bo Vitale had the lone Tigers' goal in the game off a pass from Matthew Daly. The goal by Vitale game in the 35th minute and tied the game up. The teams ended the first half 1-1, but it was all Red Devils in the second half as they scored in the 61st and 76th minutes.

Caleb Winston allowed three goals and made three saves in the net for the Tigers.

In the women's game, Savannah Blair put the Tigers on top early as she scored in the seventh minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Red Devils responded just over four minutes later, and that goal opened the floodgates as the Red Devils scored four goals in the first half and added six more in the second 45 minutes of play.

The Tigers were outshot 41-10. Caitlin O'Neil allowed 10 goals and made 15 saves in the net for the Tigers.

The IWC men are now 0-13 overall and 0-5 in the SLIAC. The IWC women fall to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the SLIAC. Both teams returned to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 as they travel to Jacksonville, IL to take on MacMurray College. The men's game starts at 1 p.m. with the women's game to follow at 3 p.m.
