Tigers roll to regional semis

NEW LONDON — Monday night was simply a breeze for the sixth-ranked New London volleyball team.

The Tigers dominated Moravia in the regional quarterfinals, sweeping the match 25-5, 25-7 and 25-7.

Breanna Mettler led the Tigers in kills, tallying nine of them in 21 attack attempts. Ashley Birdsell and Kaylor Schulte finished with six kills apiece. Addie Pry had five kills, Savannah Sutherland had two and Sophie Lounsbury had one.

Sutherland led the team with 21 assists and nine digs. Camryn Blint had seven digs. Mettler finished with six, and Carson McSorley had five.

New London had seven blocks on the day. Birdsell led the team with three. Addie Pry had two, and Lounsbury and Mettler each finished with one.

The Tigers had a nice day on the serve, going 67-71 with 15 aces. Sutherland had a huge day serving the ball, going 25-26 and scoring nine aces on the night.

Birdsell was 9-10 with three aces. Mettler went 14-15 with an ace. Blint was 9-9 with an ace and McSorley was 9-10 with an ace.

It was the 35th win for New London this season, as the Tigers moved to 35-4 overall.

The next game for New London will be one of the most anticipated regional semifinal matches in recent memory. The Tigers will host rival No. 5 Holy Trinity on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.
