Tigers split in Durant tournament

DURANT — The New London softball team went 1-1 in the Durant tournament on Saturday. The Tigers fell 5-0 to Louisa-Muscatine but took down the hosting Wildcats 9-3.

The Tigers had a tough time hitting the ball in the loss to L&M. New London had just two knocks in the game, a double by Breanna Mettler and a single by Marah Hartrick.

Sydni Coleman pitched the first five innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits and one walk to take the loss. She struck out two batters. Camryn Blint came in for two shutout innings of relief.

The Tiger bats were on fire in the six-run win over Durant. Kara Krieger and Layney Loyd each went 3-4 with an RBI in the win. Loyd had one of four Tiger doubles on the night.

Alexa Wenger was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Carson McSorley went 1-4 with a double and two RBIs. Mettler was 1-4 with a double and an RBI, and both Kaylor Schulte and Chloe Heitmeier knocked in a run.

Heitmeier picked up the win in the circle. She started and pitched five innings, giving up just two runs (one earned) on eight hits, while striking out one batter. Coleman came in to pitch the final two innings, giving up one earned run on two hits.
