Tigers v-ball wins, Wolves lose in thriller

DONNELLSON — Both No. 14 New London and Winfield-Mt. Union were in action on Thursday night. The Tigers won a road game 3-1 over Central Lee, and the Wolves lost a five-set nail-biter, 3-2 to Pekin.

New London and Central Lee played four straight tight games. New London had to win the first two games in extras, taking game one 27-25 and game two 26-24. The Hawks extended the game with a 25-19 win in the third set, but the Tigers bounced back and won 25-23 in the fourth.

Addie Pry and Kaylor Schulte co-led the Tigers with 16 kills apiece. Peyton Jackosn had seven kills and both Sophie Lounsbury and Alexa Wenger had two each.

Kristen Rohdy had 40 assists in the win. Chloe Coleman led the team with 33 digs, and Schulte had 20. Rohdy and Schulte each had two aces in the win, and Alexa Wenger finished with one.

W-MU and Pekin traded games back and forth all week. The Wolves dropped the first game 25-14 but tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 in set two.

Pekin went up 2-1 with a 25-19 win in the third set. W-MU won set four 25-21 to send it into the deciding fifth set, but Pekin grinded out a 15-12 win to speak out the victory.

Jenna Buffington led the Wolves with 16 kills in the loss. Liana Sweezer had nine kills. Anna Hudson and Jami Wilkerson had four kills each. Madie Anderson had two and Kayla Edwards finished with one.

Edwards had a team-leading 26 assists in the loss. Buffington led the squad with 25 digs, and Kyndal Townsley added 21 digs.

Townsley had a great game serving, finishing the night with six aces. Edwards had three aces. Sabrina Moody finished with two, and Hudson had one.
