Tigers, Wolves finish one-two at regional meet

NEW LONDON — Two more area golf teams are one good meet away from state. On Monday, both the New London and Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ golf teams punched their tickets to the Region 5 state-qualifying meet with a one-two finish.

New London shot a 358, which was the best score of any Class 1A qualifier on the day. Winfield-Mt. Union placed second with a 410. English Valleys also advanced, shooting a 418.

The Tigers were led yet again by Casey Noble, who won the meet by four strokes with a 79. Noble shot a 39 in the first round and a 40 in the second round to bring home the only sub-80 score of the day.

Addie Pry wasn’t far behind Noble. She shot a 41 in the first round and a 42 in the second round to finish up at 83, placing second and giving New London the top two spots.

Jaden Streeter was the third Tiger scorer. She shot a 49 in the first round and a 46 in the second round to wind up at 95, which placed her sixth overall.

Carlie Loyd shot a 49 and a 50 to sneak inside the top 10. Her score of 101 was 10th-place overall. Summer Mallott shot a 52 and a 50 to score a 102, which put her in 12th-place. Hannah Ortberg shot a 64 and a 72 to finish at 136, which placed her 32nd overall.

W-MU’s Lexee Hartsock led the Wolves with a fourth-place 93. Hartsock shot a 47 in the first round and added a 46 in the second round.

The Wolves had two players finish at 105 to tie for 13th. Lauren Jamison shot a 54 in the first round and a 51 in the second round. Lauren Hagge shot a 51 and a 54.

Sabrina Moody shot a 107, finishing her first round at 55 and shooting a 52 in her second round. That placed her 16th overall and rounded out the Wolves’ scorers.

Abbie Cooley shot a 50 and a 60 to finish at 110, which was good enough for 18th. Makenna Mullin shot a 68 in the first round and a 58 in the second round to score 126 for 28th.

The Tigers and Wolves both advanced to the Region 5 tournament in Sigourney, which will take place on Monday, May 21.
