Tom M. Horsey

Tom M. Horsey, 73, of Salem and formerly of Keokuk, died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at his home.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the Embury United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Barrett officiating, followed by a time of food and fellowship. He has donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic for AL Amyloidosis Research and to HCI Care Services in Mt. Pleasant in his memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at Murphy Funeral Home, of Mt. Pleasant, is handling the arrangements.

Horsey was born on June 15, 1943, in Keokuk, the son of James O. and Marie Horsey. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State College on May 17, 1968, with a Bachelor of Science Education. On Feb. 13, 1971, he married Dixie Boecker, in Montrose. He served his country in the United States Army from Jan. 18, 1968 until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 10, 1970.

He worked in the insurance field for 44 years, spending the last 39 years with Principal Financial Group, out of Keokuk.

He enjoyed listening to all types of music, being a part of various community sport organizations, following Iowa sports teams, spending time with his family, mushroom hunting, and wild berry hunting.

Horsey is survived by his wife, Dixie; his children, Tim (Breanna) Horsey, of Storm Lake; and Sarah (Wes) Tadlock, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Susie (Mike) Easter, of Donnellson; Beverly (Bill) Stevens, of Farmington; and Mae (Ed) Conn, of Montrose.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Horsey; and one sister, Bonnie Cahill.
