Two vehicle collision on Hwy 34 Friday

Photo by: Grace King Steven Reich was driving his 2001 Mercury Sable eastbound on Highway 34 Friday, June 29 when he saw his friend walking along the shoulder and swerved across the right lane of traffic into a 2017 Ram truck.

A minor two-vehicle collision on Highway 34 east of Mt. Pleasant Friday, June 29 around noon was the result of improper lane use.

Steven Reich, 52, of Mt. Pleasant, was traveling eastbound on Highway 34 in the left lane on Friday when he noticed his friend walking on the side of the highway. Concerned, Reich quickly pumped the breaks and swerved into the right lane of traffic to stop and check on his friend.

At approximately the same time, M. L. Cratton, 78, of Burlington, was traveling eastbound in the right lane of traffic. Reich collided with Cratton when he changed lanes.

Reich was issued a citation for Improper Use of Lanes.

Reich was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable, which is considered totaled. Cratton only sustained minor damage to his 2017 Ram truck.

Minor injuries were reported. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office and HCHC were at the scene.
