A Mt. Pleasant woman has been charged with failure to maintain control after blacking out and crashing her Jeep into a parked vehicle on a used car lot.

Penelope Ross-Ensminger, of Mt. Pleasant, was charged with failure to maintain control after crashing her 2015 Jeep Patriot into a Ford Ranger, which was parked on the Schrader Used Car Lot, and totaling both vehicles on Friday, May 25. The accident happened at approximately 7:09 a.m., at 807 W. Washington St.

According to police reports, Ensminger was driving east on Washington St., in her black 2015 Jeep Patriot when she either blacked out or had a medical issue. She crossed the centerline, drove through the westbound lanes, over the curb and into the private lot at Schrader’s Used Car lot. The SUV struck a red Ford Ranter, parked in the lot. Upon impact, the Ford Ranger struck a blue Buick Terraza SUV, which hit a white Ford Ranger. Air bags were deployed in the Jeep and the driver was later extracted from the vehicle.

The Jeep Patriot was totaled, as well as the red Ford Ranger and the Buick. The white Ford Ranger’s damage was estimated at $5,000. Total damage to all the vehicles was estimated at $30,500.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, HCHC paramedics and Breuer Towing.
