WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union baseball and softball teams were swept on Thursday night by SEISC North Division rival Pekin.

The Wolves scored the first run in both games but the Panthers came storming back to win both by double-digits.

On the baseball field, W-MU scored in the second inning when Dawson Bergthold knocked in Brayden Bradley.

The Wolves held a 1-0 lead for just a short time, as Pekin’s offense woke up in the third inning.

The Panthers put up two runs in the third inning, two more in the fourth, four in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh.

The Wolves had four hits on the day. Kleyton Benedict, Cary Stalder, Bergthold and Mitchell Niebuhr all had one base knock.

In the softball game, W-MU put up one run in the first inning, but the Wolves couldn’t muster anymore after that and ended the game with just two hits.

Pekin scored five runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth to run away with the win.

The baseball team fell to 2-13 with the loss. They will be at the Wapello tournament on Saturday, June 24.

The softball team went to 6-10 with the loss and will be at West Liberty for their tournament, which takes place this Saturday as well.
