DANVILLE — The Winfield-Mt. Union baseball team won their first game of the season on Friday, knocking off Danville 5-1 in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover game.

The Wolves scored one run each in the first, second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Bears plated one in their final frame but the Wolves hung on for a four-run victory.

Bryant Holtkamp had a big game, going 3-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base in the win. Jarod Kadel was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. John Day went 1-2 with an RBI. Christian Gerot was 1-3 with four stolen bases and two runs scored. Collin Simmons and Nick Crow each went 2-3 in the win, and Simmons crossed the plate for one run.

The win came after an 11-7 loss at Lone Tree the day before. Crow went 1-3 with two RBIs in that loss. Dawson Boal, Ford and Day all had one RBI and Holtkamp stole two bases.

Boal took the loss on the mound, going four and one-third innings and giving up 11 runs (five earned) on eight hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Crow threw one inning and gave up two walks while striking out two.
