WINFIELD — The difficult stretch of the Winfield-Mt. Union football schedule continued on Friday night as the Wolves took on a Pekin squad which sits just outside of the top 10 in Class A. The Panthers were able to shut the Wolves down 38-0 to keep W-MU winless in the district.

W-MU struggled to gain ground in a rainy and wet atmosphere. The Wolves couldn’t get their running game going and finished with just four rushing yards on the day.

The Wolves’ passing game carried the offense. Christian Gerot was 4-10 with 64 yards in the loss.

Daunte Oepping had two catches for 36 yards. Andrew Brady caught one pass for 23 yards and Juanito Piper had one catch for five yards.

Jayce Malone led the W-MU defense with 8.5 tackles, including two tackles for a loss. Juanito Piper had 6.5 tackles with two tackles for a loss. Oepping finished with 5.5 tackles.

W-MU fell to 0-7 overall with the loss and 0-5 in district play. They will have two games left, both on the road.

The Wolves’ next game will be at North Mahaska, where they will take on the only other winless team in the district. That contest will take place on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m.
