KALONA — Madie Anderson struck out 10 batters at Iowa Mennonite on Tuesday night including the 100th of her career, but IMS was able to score two late solo homers, including one walk-off, to nip Winfield-Mt. Union, 2-1.

Anderson went toe-to-toe with IMS pitcher Hannah Harris all game as the two offenses struggled to put runs across the plate.

Neither team was able to score in the first five innings. In the top of the sixth inning, Hannah Mathews knocked in Kyndal Townsley on a fielder’s choice and the Wolves led, 1-0.

IMS tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, however, with a homer from short stop Calli Shaw.

Mia Graber came up in the bottom of the seventh and sent the dagger into the Wolves’ hearts with a walk-off homer, which finished the scoring at 2-1.

There were just six hits total in the contest, three for IMS and three for W-MU. Liana Sweezer went 2-3 to lead the Wolves.

Anderson threw seven innings in the loss, giving up two earned runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out 10.

The Wolves fell to 6-14 with the loss. W-MU dropped games to West Liberty (11-0) and West Burlington (12-2) on Saturday, and were shut out, 9-0, by a stacked Louisa-Muscatine team on Monday.

W-MU is scheduled to host Danville in their next contest, on Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m.
