WACO falls to Central Lee in four sets

DONNELSON — The WACO volleyball team got off to a great start on Tuesday night, winning the first set in its final regular season game at Central Lee, but the Hawks were able to take the next three sets to top the Warriors 3-1.

WACO put Central Lee on upset alert with a 25-22 win in the opening set, but Central Lee shook it off and cruised in the next two sets, winning 25-7 and 25-11. WACO nearly forced a deciding fifth set but the Hawks were able to close it out 25-21.

Kiana Miller had seven kills in the loss in just 13 attack attempts to lead the Warriors. Clara Schmitz had six kills. Nadiyah Brown had three kills. Taylor Roth finished with two and Lona Farrier had one.

Laney Graber had 16 assists in the loss, and also had the best day serving, going 15-16 with two aces. Kat Adair led the team in digs, with 10,l and Roth had nine digs.

Overall the Warriors went 49-56 serving the ball. Graber led the team with two, and Adair, Farrier, Aubri Garnsey and Miller each had one.

WACO finished the season 7-18. They will face IMS in Kalona in the first round of the regional tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
