LONE TREE — The WACO football team traveled to Lone Tree on Friday night for a district match up against a familiar SEISC foe.

The Warrior defense had a rough time stopping the Lion running game, which gained over 300 yards as Lone Tree topped the Warriors 62-25.

WACO scored twice on Hunter Donaldson runs in the first half but the Lion offense put up 35 points to take a 35-12 lead into halftime.

Nik Coble threw a couple of touchdown passes in the third quarter, the second of which cut the Lone Tree lead to 49-25. That was as close as WACO would get, however, as Lone Tree consistantly put up points.

Coble was 16-37 in the loss, throwing for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Colton Horak had another huge game with 101 yards on the ground and 95 yards on nine catches, but he couldn’t find the end zone all night.

Matthew Leichty caught three passes for 76 yards and one touchdown. Drew Kissell caught three passes for 54 yards and a score, and Calvin Battle had two catches for 24 yards.

Battle and Cody Crawford had 7.5 tackles each to lead the defense. Jalen Collins had 5.5 tackles, and Jason Sammons finished with five. Horak had the team’s only takeaway, coming on an interception.

It was a tough loss for WACO’s playoff hopes. The Warriors fell to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in district play. They’ll hit the road to take on first-place Baxter (3-0, 5-1) on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
