SPRINGVILLE — The WACO football team simply ran right over Springfield on Friday night. The Warriors scored 29 points in the first quarter and ran away with a 64-40 victory.

Elijah McGhoan started the scoring off with a 65-yard run in the first quarter. The WACO defense got a safety and then scored again with a 14-yard Colton Horak run to take a 15-0 lead.

Hunter Donaldson punched in another TD on a three-yard run to make it 21-0. Horak scored again on a 10-yard run and Cody Crawford ran in a two-point conversion as the Warriors led 29-0 after one period.

The Springfield offense got into the game in the second quarter but the Warriors held a steady lead thanks to a 24-yard touchdown reception from Calvin Battle and two more rushing scores from Horak.

Donaldson and Jalen Collins each ran in a touchdown in the third quarter as the Warriors kept a steady lead at 64-32. The scoring settled down in the fourth, other than a Springville touchdown run, and WACO picked up their second win of the season.

WACO quarterback Nik Coble went 8-15 for 192 yards and a touchdown. Drew Kissell had two catches for 65 yards. Calvin Battle had four catches for 62 yards and a score.

Horak had 124 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and also caught one pass for 55 yards. McGhoan finished with 119 yards and a score and Donaldson had 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Horak also led the defense with 14.5 tackles. Both he and Nolan Eubanks had a fumble recovery. Battle finished the game with seven tackles and Crawford had six.

WACO moved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the district. The Warriors will be back at home next week to take on English Valleys at 7 p.m.
