WAYLAND — The WACO school board reviewed four quotes last night – lockers, entrance door, concrete for north of the main entrance of the secondary building and a security system – and approved only three of them. The board tabled the security system quote until more information could be gathered.

Only one company provided the school with a quote for the new lockers. The quote was submitted by Storage and Design Group out of Des Moines for a price tag of $19,100.

“These are the remainder of the student lockers,” said Dr. Darrell Smith, Superintendent, in the board notes. “We hope to have them installed over Easter Break.”

The quote is for the remainder of the new lockers and the removal and disposal of existing lockers.

The school requested door quotes from three companies and only received one proposal –MGSI of Iowa City.

The lone proposal quoted materials and labor for the new entrance door at $6,400 and the demolition and disposal of the old doors at $850 for a total cost of $7,250.

In the MGSI proposal, the entrance doors to be installed will be Manko 150 wide style series aluminum interior entrance doors. The frames will be 1.75 inches by 4.5 inches aluminum. MGSI gave the school the option of having standard push/pull hardware on the doors of flat push plated and center pull plate like the exterior doors.

The finish of the aluminum doors was quoted to be aluminum to match the existing exterior doors.

Coleman & T Concrete Construction, Inc. of Winfield provided the lone bid for the concrete work north of the main entrance of the secondary building. The $7,182.50 quote covers the removal of the sidewalk and replacing it with four-inch concrete.

Security systems quotes were provided by Per Mar, Woodman, Walsh and Atech. Per Mar and Atech provided quotes for the high school as well as the elementary, and it the board decided to table any action until after the other two companies completed the process.

Also approved by the school board was the offering of the early retirement program. An estimated seven staff members qualify for early retirement, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 1.

The board also:

• Approved hiring Jay Coble as basketball scorekeeper.

• Approved having a spring auction to dispose of surplus equipment.

• Approved the first reading of the 2014-2015 course registration handbook for the secondary building.
